I’ve been away from Substack for longer than usual because I have had an unusually busy past 5 to 6 weeks. My travels have taken us from Chicago to DC to Calgary (after my Mother-in-law passed away suddenly and unexpectedly after a brief illness), then to Indiana and back to Michigan.
During my travels, I was also interviewing for a new position, and I’m pleased to be able to announce that I have accepted a new role as Director of the Center for Energy and Environment at the America First Policy Institute.
In this new role, I’ll champion free market policies to advance U.S. energy independence, strengthen the energy sector, and promote a level playing field for energy sources. My team’s focus will be on streamlining permitting, boosting energy exports, and delivering realistic solutions to environmental challenges while ensuring affordable, reliable energy for all.
I’m grateful for the nine years that I worked at the Mackinac Center and for its unwavering commitment to individual liberty and limited government.
My time on Substack is likely to continue to be intermittent as I stay focused on packing up my home in Michigan and preparing for the move to the Washington, DC area. But I’m excited for the opportunity to contribute to AFPI’s mission and look forward to working with my new team.
Stay tuned! We’ll be doing big things.

Congratulations on your new position, Jason. You'll do a great job.
Will probably be the most amazing move to DC anyone has ever seen…probably the best move ever!! Much love to you and the Missus
