States play a dangerous game when they support anti-energy lawfare campaigns against the energy industries that power their economies.
Lawsuits against the oil and gas industry in Louisiana and Michigan target siphoning billions for alleged climate and coastal damage. These lawsuits will inevitably harm the residents, economies, and environments of both states, as they will redirect payments from the industry away from projects that protect the natural environment into the pockets of trial lawyers.
They will also lead to reduced spending on infrastructure, limit job creation, and raise the price of essential energy supplies.
